Programme of Events to March 2011


The LGFoR has planned a number of events for 2010 with the focus on accompanied walks in the Summer and presentations for Autumn and Winter.

Wednesday 21st July: A visit to an excavation site at Marcham supervised by Dr Gary Lock, followed by lunch at the Eyston Arms, East Hendred, or picnic in the village, and a walk in the East Hendred area. Walk to start at 14.30. *

Sunday 26th September: A walk from Streatley to East Ilsley. Transport will be arranged from Stanford-in-the-Vale Village Hall (pick-up point) to Streatley. We will then walk along the Ridgeway to East Ilsley, where a bus will pick us up and return us to Stanford-in-the-Vale. To start at 10.45.*

Thursday 28th October: A presentation on “Red Kites” by Philip Morris, at the Pump Rooms, Faringdon. 7.30 p.m.*

November: A talk on Wildlife on Sheepdrove Organic Farm, and Barn Owls and their conservation, by Jason Ball, Manager for Biodiversity and Alternative Energy. Letcombe Bassett Village Hall, 7.30 p.m.*

2011

January: A talk on Drovers on the Ridgeway. Pump Rooms, Faringdon, 7.30 p.m. Speaker to be confirmed.*

February: AGM of the FRG local group, followed by a talk by Ian Richie on the Great Stones Way. United Reform Chapel, Stanford-in-the-Vale., 3 p.m.

March 26th: A Barn Dance at White’s Barn, Letcombe Bassett. 7.30 p.m.*

Walks and talks are free for members: for the talks, a charge of £3 will be made
for non-members. Annual Membership of the Friends of the Ridgeway is £5.
