Due to the obvious attractions of Avebury, Marlborough and the Kennett Valley, the Marlborough Downs have, in the past, been rather neglected backwater for research. More recently, partly inspired by the search for the origin of the stones of Avebury and Stonehenge, the spotlight has been turned on to the Downs and much has been revealed. A walk has, therefore, been organised to give everyone the chance to see the wonders of the Downs, with everything from Neolithic chambered tombs, humanly modified rocks, 18th century gallops, Victorian kerbstone manufacturing, and square dewponds as well as the beauty of the Downs themselves.
